Haiti Help
In an effort to help the people of Haiti following the deadly earthquake on January 12, SHCC would like to make it easy for you to assist in the relief effort. Since that disastrous day, relief groups, governments and various Christian agencies continue to update the world daily on the devastation and the greatest areas of humanitarian need. All groups are chanting the same message to the world regarding the best ways we can respond – pray and send monetary support. Pray for those affected and those who have arrived to assist. Send money for food, shelter, and medical supplies needed for hundreds of thousands of people.
Many reputable Christian charities are in action at ground zero and involved in immediate response relief efforts. As a corporate church, per our 2010 budget and your giving, SHCC is providing financial support to Christian groups such as Samaritan’s Purse and the Austin Disaster Relief Network (who works in partnership with Somebody Cares International), to assist during times such as these. We encourage you, the church of SHCC, to please consider giving additionally to one of the organizations listed below.
SHCC will continue to evaluate additional needs in Haiti. One of our own SHCC members, Connie Bowman, arrived in Haiti on Wednesday afternoon. We will be communicating with our friend there to listen to the most urgent needs and determine if alternative measures would assist relief efforts in a greater capacity. Right now our greatest weapon is our prayers. Based on our most recent communication with Connie, we ask that you please pray for the following:
- Pray that children and families across Haiti who are in desperate need of lifesaving food, water, health care, and other necessities can receive what they need quickly.
- Pray for the relief efforts. Pray that no barriers prevent needed supplies from reaching those who desperately need it.
- Pray for relief workers who are administering aid. Pray that they are strengthened by our Almighty God, to persevere as they assess damage and render aid.
- Pray that God would humble us and give us hearts so filled with compassion for the people of Haiti that we would pray unceasingly and give willingly.
- Pray that we would spend our time not pondering the “what” and “why” of the devastation, but instead listening to God’s call to us of “when” and “how” to respond. Empower us, Lord, to do what we can with what we have.
